Satellite Rotary Minutes
December 19, 2017

On December 9th, Stephanie Skrumeda and all the Satellite Members helped work and coordinate a successful Blue Santa event.  In total, our club contributed $1,500 to this effort with a District matching grant of $1,500 for a total of $3K to purchase food for 49 families with 106 children! To many families, the gifts, food and clothing received through the Blue Santa program will relieve the stress of trying to provide gifts and “holiday magic” to their children. There were 15 Rotarians who helped with this effort and several family members who together volunteered over 27 hours. The event was again held at Ronnie Bock’s Kerrville RV and was coordinated by the Citizens Police Academy, Satellite Rotary Group and Kerrville Elks lodge. Kudos to Stephanie and all the Rotarians who came out to help.

The Satellite Club held their Dec. 19th meeting at the Kerrville State Hospital by sponsoring a Christmas party for patients of the hospital. They had special guests who attended including Santa Claus, our very own Jeff Talarico, and Chris Huber & Greg Bitkower who played and lead the group in Christmas carols.  Jacques Duhr once again showcased his culinary skills for the dinner and it must have been great because there were very few leftovers. Austin Clarkson came up with a Jingle Bell toss and the patients were all eager to participate. A prize was given to the winner of each of the three rounds. There were plenty of desserts and fun during the night. One patient gave us some one liner jokes and made everyone laugh, Santa even said he gets some of his best work from this patient! Gifts were distributed, and all the patients left with full tummy’s and a present in hand. Another example of “Service above Self”!

Satellite Rotary’s next meeting will be Jan. 16th at the Wells Fargo Bank Community Room
